Recreation Ministry

The Family Life Center at First Baptist Alabaster is used throughout the year almost seven days a week. Ministries such as our AWEE, Mother’s Day Out and After School Program occupy the gym and game room during the day. Upward Basketball & Cheerleading occupy the gym most evenings from the middle of November through the middle of February. These ministries, along with other planned activities, may limit the time the FLC is open.

The following is a typical schedule for the various areas of the FLC. Please call 205-663-3531 for the current hours of operation. The track and weight room are available to persons over the age of sixteen. Please sign in at the Control Desk.

FBCA partners with Upward Ministries to provide team sports experiences for children. Upward is a fun, reliable, passionate and encouraging sports experience for boys and girls, in K5 through sixth grade. Upward provides first class, organized and detailed sports programming. Unique aspects of Upward include an evaluation system that promotes equal and competitive teams as well as a substitution system which allows for equal playing time for all participants. Through Upward, children are exposed to quality coaching and sport development. Upward emphasizes character and integrity instead of a “win at all costs” mentality associated with today’s sports world.

FBCA provides team experiences in flag football, outdoor soccer, cheerleading, and basketball. Flag football is for children in first through sixth grades. Outdoor soccer is offered for four and five year olds. Cheerleading is offered during the flag football and outdoor soccer seasons. Basketball is offered for children in first through sixth grade. Cheerleading is also offered during the basketball season.

The typical schedule for flag football/outdoor soccer/cheerleading begins with evaluations the end of June followed by practices in July with games beginning in early August and the season concludes the end of September.

Basketball evaluations are held the middle of October with practices following. The games begin in early December and conclude in early February. There are breaks during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

In His Grip

FBCA partners with the In His Grip Golf Association to use golf as a ministry to all golfers. The golf course provides a common ground for the church and the community to build relationships and utilize a cultural interest to share the love of Jesus Christ.

FBCA sponsors an In His Grip evangelistic golf event in the spring of the year. It is co-sponsored by In His Grip and is a first class golf outing conducted in a best-ball tournament context. Foursomes mix Christians and non-Christians for a time of relationship building and golf experience. The typical schedule consists of warming up on the driving range and practice greens, the golf tournament, and lunch followed by a concluding Gospel presentation.

A variety of fitness classes are offered at various times of the year. Classes that have been offered are aerobics, senior fitness, tumbling, Christian martial arts, Pilates, and jazzercise. If you would like further information about current classes please contact the church office, 205-663-3531.
