Ephesians 6:17
Know this about the passage....
Roman soldiers often had 2 swords. The long sword was quite heavy and required the use of both hands. This is the sword we often think of when we think of a solider's armor, but this is NOT the sword that Paul was talking about in this passage. Soldiers also carried a smaller sword. This sword was more like a knife and was only about 18 inches long. It was extremely sharp and had double cutting edges. The tip was as sharp as a needle. Since the sword was so small, it could easily be hidden from an enemy. One blow with this sword to the right place was deadly. This sword was perfect for hand to hand combat.

The Sword of the Spirit is the only piece of armor Paul mentions that is an offensive weapon used to fight instead of a defensive one used to protect. it is also that only piece of armor that Paul actually describes. He wanted to be sure that the reader knew that the Sword of the Spirit was God's Word.
