Michael McVay
Minister of Education and Administration
Accepting Jesus as Savior at the age of eight, the Lord began to shape Michael's life for ministry at an early age. At age 18, he began to serve in part-time ministry positions in the area of music and youth while attending college in Pensacola. During this time he answered the call to education ministry within the church. He began serving in full-time ministry in 1985 upon completing his Christian education degree at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Michael views the Sunday School as a unique strategy for the church. While many churches use the terminology of "small groups," the Sunday School is our primary small group ministry. Though Bible study is surely an important part of Sunday School, there is much more involved in the ministry of Sunday School. The Sunday School is structured in a wonderful way to reach people for Christ and help them mature in their walk with Him. One cannot fully experience First Baptist, Alabaster and build lasting relationships with other believers without being involved in a Sunday School group.
A favorite quote: "Preach the Word at all times, and when necessary use words." – St. Francis of Assisi
A favorite Scripture: "Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your gracious Spirit lead me on level ground." (Psalm 143:10)
